Backing Rings
Table D and E are the original Australian AS2129 flange tables, and are still used in mining irrigation, mechanical services, and water projects today. Advanced Piping manufacture stainless flanges or slip-on backing rings to suit Poly piping, which requires a very specific Inside Diameter (ID) to slide over the pipe and buttweld beads, while maintaining enough surface area to maintain the flange torque. In higher SDR ratings SDR9 and SDR7.4 we recommend that the backing ring is included with the stub flange prior to welding, as the buttweld bead may be too big to slide the flange on later.
